Science at Shore Leave

At Shore Leave, we take our Science seriously. Each year we invite Scientists from various fields to educate and inform our attendees. NASA has always played a big part in our STEM programming.
This year, NASA will be onsite presenting more on the Hubble Space Telescope mission! For 34 years and counting, Hubble’s amazing discoveries and images of space have changed the way we understand our universe. The Hubble team will be there, so stop by their table to say hi, take home some out-of-this-world handouts, and try out their interactive activities – including a Hubble hologram and augmented reality.

Embracing Mental Health as a Fandom

The Companion is an organization that is working to help fandom not be such a lonely place. They create special, fun, and unique livestreams and community social hangouts that uplift and celebrate fandom. This year they are teaming up with Amanda Tapping and Teryl Rothery to spread the happiness. Amanda has a new book, Embracing Mental Health as a Fandom that is co-produced with The Companion. The organization will be onsite at Shore Leave so you can learn all about it.

Art Show: The Shore Leave Art Show presents sculptures, original paintings, prints, and drawings from all parts of the Alpha Quadrant.

Writing Workshops: Improve your writing skills with workshops led by favorite writers, covering topics such as writing non-fiction in Trek, point of view in storytelling, and the challenges of being a writer.

Filk: Filk, the music of science fiction, fantasy, and related genres, is part of the Shore Leave experience.

Stargazing: Explore the planets, stars, and galaxies visible from Lancaster.

Meet the Pros Party: Autograph party with author guests and the chance to meet authors of the latest sci-fi releases.

Game Room: A variety of activities including a board game library, role-playing games, collectible card games, and miniature war games.

Photo Ops: Get a photo taken with your favorite stars and have it signed without leaving the hotel.

Fan Panels: Some amazing fan-led panels about your favorite Sci-fi/Fantasy subjects!

Science Programming: Shore Leave prides itself on its amazing Science and Astronaut guests. We provide programming that is informative and fun for everyone!

Small Budget Films: The ongoing renaissance in fan filming and small budget films continues to produce spectacular new works of science fiction and science fantasy.
